With Maddie heading to Los Angeles early for a new exciting opportunity with Sia, the ALDC team is down another member and the moms question Abby's dedication to this week's routines since her favorite dancer is gone. Abby needs a sub for Maddie, so she calls in new dancer JoJo, whose star quality threatens both the moms and the girls.[1][2]

Other Information

  • Pyramid:
    • Maddie
    • Mackenzie, Nia
    • Kalani, Kendall
  • This marks the first episode to feature JoJo and Jessalynn Siwa as main cast members on the show.
  • Kalani has her first confessional in this episode.
  • The group dance was inspired by various religions, with each girl representing a different one:
    • JoJo: Muslim
    • Kalani: Hindu
    • Kendall: Hare Krishna
    • Mackenzie: Catholic nun
    • Nia: High Priestess (speaker)
    • Sarah: Pagan
  • At one point, audio seems to have Abby telling Nia, "If you don't do this, and we don't win, it's going to be your fault". The audio is identical to that heard while Abby is yelling at Mackenzie in The Understudies.[4]
  • An Afterbuzz episode from January with Abby and her team of dancers includes various discussions related to this episode:
    • Abby says she was actually already there to see the other girls' performances, but was hiding further back to create drama for the show, and give the impression that she only was interested in Mackenzie's solo.[5]
    • JoJo says that Christy had been arguing with Jessalynn about Sarah having better technique than JoJo throughout the week; but that such footage was not really included in the broadcast, thus giving the impression that Jessalynn brought up their scores out of the blue.[6]
    • Abby said she liked JoJo and she was fun, but that JoJo was really brought in by producers; and that she would have preferred someone with amazing feet and legs, or someone much younger to bring their average age down.[7]
  • October 24: Maddie performed at the Hollywood Bowl with Sia.
