"The Competition Begins" is the first episode of the first season of Dance Moms. It first aired on July 13, 2011.
Synopsis
Dance instructor Abby Lee Miller works with young girls to help them prepare for dance competitions; Abby has a conflict with two of the mothers when they cross the line.[1]

Goofs/Errors
- In the scene where Maddie feels sick, the girls are actually rehearsing Electricity – the group dance shown in the following episode.
- The original music used for the trio can be heard whenever it cuts to Christi and Kelly in the audience.
- Despite the group not being shown, Brooke and Paige can be seen wearing the costumes for Rag Dolls in the dressing room.
